Not all, perhaps not many nontheist Quakers would describe themselves as existentialists (and surely not nihilists) but I thought this delightful post on ‘Canadian Atheist’ by 87 years old James Haught, editor of West Virginia’s largest newspaper, deserved sharing amongst Friends.
Most of us probably wouldn’t share all the sentiments expressed (anyone for Trump?) and some of which might be very unwelcome to many Quakers in the world, but it moved me to smile (tickled my fancy?) so I hope Friends find it interesting too!

Of particular interest is the way in which god followers place so much trust a deity for eradicating gun violence…..Sorry, holy thoughts and prayers are not working, folks!

I had to look up what an existentialist and a nihilists was and got a bit bogged down, so on the later to do list.
I guess I am a to-do-ist lol.
I have joined a new organisation in which I to commit to specific tasks to cut down my carbon footprint, it is Count-us-in.org. In line with this I have also joined an app called Olio which was built to help save food waste from supermarkets etc
I had a moral quandary about Olio because as with many apps the originators stand to make a lot of money, it has been set up as a social enterprise and all the food sharing is done by volunteers who are allowed 10% usage, I think the profits will come from a side line of a market place for home made goods.
I think the distinction between charities and business have become blurred, indeed despatches recently highlighted stars allegedly being paid for photo shoots for charities.
Life is not black and white and we live in a system in which we all need money, especially if we are going to be able to give to charity. Does doing good have to be free? Nurses and Doctors get paid.
Maybe the important lesson is for transparency, like publishing financial information like Ecosia and Moneysaving expert?
Maybe if there had been more transparency for the tax returns etc of an incoming presidential candidate, there would have been a different story to tell?
